Pop the champagne…2015 is Telpay’s 30th Anniversary! We are celebrating this milestone by honouring our innovative past and striving towards more innovative products in our even brighter future.

Great companies start with smart ideas and the vision of a leader to make it happen. W.H. (Bill) Loewen is one such leader. In 1968, Loewen founded Comcheq Services Limited, one of the first computerized outsourcing payroll companies in Canada. By the 1980’s, Comcheq was processing over $50 billion in annual payroll transactions, operating in 18 Canadian cities and employing more than 400 people.

Not resting on his innovative laurels, as the payroll industry embraced direct deposits,  Comcheq invested significant resources in research and development, which lead to the formation of Telpay. As a result in 1985, Telpay pioneered the first telephone bill payment service. Through the 1990’s as the major banks started to introduce telephone payments, the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) contracted Telpay to provide their technology systems, support and customer service. Telpay would provide similar services to over 250 financial institutions.

Constantly striving to be the leader in electronic payments, in 2000 Telpay began to focus on business to business electronic payments and developed a payment software called Business Connect. Making continuous software improvements to meet the growing needs of the business to business payment market, in 2005 Business Connect was rebranded as Telpay for Business. Today, thousands of Canadian businesses have switched from cheques to electronic payments to send and receive money to pay employees, suppliers, government remittances, USD payments, international payments, PAD’s and more.

Thank you for a great 30 years with many more to come. We appreciate your business, trust and support. From phones to computers to internet and now to smartphones, Telpay continues to strive to be the leader in electronic payments in Canada. We have many more celebrations planned for an even a bigger and more successful year in 2015. So stay tuned.
